Laying pavers for Pots!
Jast a few pavers for two pots to sit on and make a focal point of in a small backyard.
Shaping plants
This is post trimming and shaping these Pittosporums and Lilli Pilli – a regular job I had.
Four Raised Planters
These are four raised vegetable planters I made at two properties, featuring tongue and groove on the left most and macrocarpa sleepers for the right three. All of them make the most of small awkward spaces. Turning small spaces that were unutilised into productive areas and screening an ugly shed with a trellis that had Vigna caracalla (Snail Vine) planted in the planter ready to be trained up the trellis as it grows.
Chester Street Jungle Taming!!!
A garden in Chester Street in Taradale, the owners were transitioning to retirement and had been spending increasing amounts of time at their beach property.
Unfortunately, this left little time for section maintenance and their garden had become wildly overgrown. The owner and I spent three weekends together working on this project! There is a pool under all the plant matter in the front yard! The project was to get it back to zero so it could be maintained easily by mowing and a bit of trimming until the house could be sold.
A Garden For Dogs!
This was very cool project: a garden for dogs waiting to be groomed to chill in and be safe from the driveway, and held securely. All components needed to be safe for and from dogs! It features a paving and concrete ring, corner gardens covered in stones, and plantings. I used Thuga smaragd and Rosemarinus officinalis as pet safe plants and stones large enough that dogs of all sizes could not swallow them!
Taradale Section
This was a busy, multi-generational home, left to its own devices for a few years. Very grateful clients, happy to have the section back to zero so they could keep on top of it from here on out! Weeding, pruning, tree removal and limb management.
Weeding, weeding, weeding...
Just a little tidy up, weeding and a bit of trimming.
Mulching!!!
Just laying mulch for weed control until planting. They wanted the mulch laid before planting – not the best way to go, usually you plant and then lay mulch. But there was going to be a time gap until planting and they preferred to keep the weeds down.
Another Rural Property Clean Up
This was a regular clean up job, weeding, trimming, pruning, sweeping and weed eating.
Section Clean - Up as Regular Maitentance
This job was just after the homeowner had purchased and moved in. Just a clean up and mow. Quite a stunning contrast before and after.
A Group of Hedges I Look After
These are an array of hedges that I look after in Waipatu – fancy curves and sharp edges. Fun to cut and with a great aesthetic post cutting. This is another rural property on a lifestyle block where I look after the domestic garden and do some of the farm chores. I weed the paddock of thistles and ryegrass, move the sheep sometimes and clean up post the big machine cutting the shelter belts.
Roses in Raupare Road
Wild, overgrown roses that had not been pruned in a few years. A job with a satisfying outcome.
Just a Little Clean Up...
Just a weedy, overgrown garden and alleyway by the shed. Weeded, pruned and cut back a Wonga Wonga vine.
Messy to Clean - Overgrown Side of Shed
A satisfying clean up job – overgrown Ivy, weeds and rubbish removed. A simple job with great impact!
Large Hillside Planting, Parking and Vehicle Turnaround
This was a cool job involving making a place for the resident to park his trailer and SUV and drive into the backyard, back out and turn both of them to drive out of the section. It involved retaining walls to create level three levels: the backing zone, parking area for the trailer and a loading zone flat area to load the trailer. On the hillside below are a range of ornamental and fruit trees. Limestone sand was used to create a durable surface for driving on. Limestone pathways were created to view the planting and help people passing through – this is slightly rural Havelock North and people use the side of this property to walk further up the hill – an opportunity to enjoy the planting.
Fencing and Shed Moving
This job involved adding a side fence for security along side the neighbours driveway. Also demolishing a wood shed and moving an existing utility shed in it’s place. Making a more streamlined area.
350 Dahlias Need a Courtyard to Admire Them!!
Brief was to create a seated courtyard, showcasing their Dahlia collection, and reusing red bricks and telephone poles the client already had.
A Simple Planting
This was a simple planting to create screening for a business operating from a domestic property. The idea was to create privacy for customers and for the residents. Thuga smaragd and Viburnum davidii Male are planted in a contopured garden to create some vafriation and interest. Bark mulch laid over geotextile fabric.
Massive Ivy Clearing
This fence was covered in Ivy with ferns and weeds growing underneath. Pulled away quite satisfyingly, even though Ivy is a pain to deal with!
Massive Mowing Operation
This section belonged to a woman who had been travelling around Aotearoa in a bus and came back to a real mess! It took several passes with the mower and weedeater to tame the mess.
